Duke University is an elite research university in Durham, North Carolina. Duke is especially strong in STEM fields and social sciences. Note that Duke has more graduate students than undergraduates.
Affordability: Duke promises to meet 100% of demonstrated need, without loans for household incomes up to $40,000. Others are expected to take out loans (the higher the income, the greater the loan expectation, up to $5000 per year). According to NCES data, 20% of freshman borrowed an average of $7,590 in 2020-21.
