Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an elite, private land-grant research university in Cambridge, MA. It is known for excellence in computer science and engineering, and other STEM fields. Note that MIT has more graduate students than undergraduates.


Affordability: MIT promises to meet 100% of demonstrated need without loans. Theoretically, MIT is affordable for all students who are admitted. MIT does not award merit scholarships. According to NCES data, 6% of freshman borrowed an average of $7,235 in 2020-21.
