Soka University

Soka University is a tiny liberal arts university in southern California. Although founded on Buddhist principals, Soka is not religiously affiliated. All Soka students study a non-native language and complete a study abroad where they practice that language. The only BA program is in Liberal Arts (with several possible concentrations).


Affordability: Soka has a low average net price ($10,586 in 2020-21; this figure is noticeably lower than the previous two years). They offer need- and merit-based aid. According to NCES data, in 2020-21, 100% of freshman received university grants or scholarships averaging $27,656; 43% of freshman borrowed an average of $5,511.
